Why we give
Generosity is the overflow of gratitude. When we give, we are giving thanks. A habit of giving builds a habit of gratitude in our hearts. Giving is also stewardship. As the old hymn says,
"We give thee but thine own, whate'er the gift may be;
all that we have is thine alone, a trust, O Lord, from thee.
At its core, however, giving is simply worship, as Jesus taught, "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:21)
