Week of September 1, 2024

[Jesus said] “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.  For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” - Matthew 18: 19-20 (NIV)

September means Etna:  The days are still long (well... longish) and the weather's still warm, but the fields are tending towards amber hues, and there are shocks of orange and red showing up in the sugar maples.  With the arrival of September, we'll be back in Etna for Sunday services starting on September 1.  Please join us in person or via livestream to praise and worship our God in fellowship with your church family.
Thanks to the many people who made possible a truly blessed and uplifting summer of worship in the sanctuary of the Hanover Center church!  It is always such a pleasure to be in the presence of God in that beautiful church.
Communion Sunday: We will be celebrating Communion in our 10 am Sunday worship service this week. If you livestream with us, you should have a cracker or a piece of bread and a small cup (sip) of juice or other drink available if you would like to join us in this celebration.

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”  He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them.  And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. - Matthew 18:1-5 (NIV)

Volunteer in the Nursery: we are looking for a few people to volunteer to look after our little ones during the service on Sunday morning. If you’re interested and would like more info, reach out to Rebecca Green or simply email the church office and let us know of your interest or questions!
Fall Fest is September 21:   See announcement and information below!  This is a "family and friends" event -- by all means, invite people you know who would enjoy it.  To quote Messrs. Lennon & McCartney:  A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
Bible Discussions: Our Sunday morning Bible discussion will not meet this Sunday September 1.  We'll resume Sunday morning Bible discussions soon.  Watch our weekly updates for information about our schedule for the fall.

Our Wednesday morning Bible discussion group meets weekly at 10 am in Trumbull Hall in Etna. Please join us if your schedule permits!
Missions Committee:    Two committee members visited Adult and Teen Challenge New Hampshire in Manchester last week.  They are one of the newest ministries we support.  A trip report on the visit is available for you to read - just click here.
The image below shows one of the beautiful cutting boards the residents construct under the guidance of a staff member.  The boards are very well crafted, and their story is also mentioned in the report.  We thank the committee for its work and we also thank all of you for your support in the form of time, talents, prayer, and resources of ministries outside of the church's physical walls.   The church is Christ's body active and present in the world today, and we praise and thank God for this.
Last week in Hanover Center:  Our last summer Sunday in Hanover Center for this year was graced with a group of visitors from the Lyme Congregational Church (see photo above). For the past few years, they've been visiting other area churches in August when their pastor is on vacation. Laurie Wadsworth put them in contact with Pastor Chris.  We were pleased to host them and thank God for the opportunity.  Of course we hope that they enjoyed their morning here and we hope and pray that their hearts and lives have been touched by our ministry.
