Week of November 3, 2024 - "Fall Back"
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)
Baptisms! Last Sunday's service was both especially powerful and especially joyful, as Pastor Chris's sermon addressed Practicing the Way and we celebrated four young men who've shown their commitment to follow Jesus Christ though their baptisms! If you weren't with us last week, you may watch the entire service on Youtube by clicking here.
Chicken Pie Supper & Contradance Update: Thanks to everyone who made the Chicken Pie Supper last Saturday a sell-out success, raising ca. $3500. Also last Saturday was our Second Annual Contradance, with around 40 people attending (dancing!) and much fun had by all accounts. Thanks to all who made the event possible!
For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace. - Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NLT)
Spring forward, Fall back: Realizing that most of our devices take care of this for us nowadays, it's still important to remember that we change from Daylight Saving Time back to Eastern Standard Time very early on the morning of Sunday, November 3. In the fall, our clocks fall back one hour. If you somehow forget about this, no worries! If you arrive at what was 10 am EDT on Sunday morning for church, you'll actually be arriving in Etna at 9 am EST, and you can join us in Trumbull Hall for our Hebrews Bible study if you wish! We'll have coffee and snacks, too - so it's a win-win!
Communion Sunday: We will be celebrating Communion in our 10 am Sunday worship service this week. If you livestream with us, you should have a cracker or a piece of bread and a small cup (sip) of juice or other drink available if you would like to join us in this celebration.
Alpha for Autumn: Curious about spirituality, faith, and the big questions of life? Alpha is meant for you! Join us Wednesdays at 6:30 pm in Etna or online at 7 pm. All are welcome; share this invitation with your friends, no matter where they be. Click here for more information and to register.
Bible Discussions: Along with our Sunday morning Bible Discussion mentioned above, we also offer another Bible Discussion opportunity on Wednesday mornings at 10 am in Trumbull Hall (Etna). Join Pastor Chris for deep and lively discussions sparked by the previous Sunday's sermon.
No previous Bible study experience required in either case. Interesting and stimulating conversation is guaranteed. Both discussion series include coffee and time slot-appropriate snacks. We look forward to seeing you at either or both!

Bible Project: More NLT study Bibles, including the large print version, are available at the Etna church. A comprehensive study Bible is a wonderful resource to aid in reading and understanding the Scriptures. Thanks to the profound generosity of friends and members, we're able to offer a copy to anyone and everyone who would like to have one. Contact Pastor Chris if you have questions – or if you'd like a study Bible. We continue to accept, with gratitude, contributions to fund the purchase of additional copies. Please designate your gift to go to the "Bible Project."
