Week of March 9, 2025 - First week of Lent

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. – James 4:9 (ESV)

The Season of Lent at Our Church:
A message from Pastor Chris Green
I invite you to join us at the Church of Etna and Hanover Center for Lent this year. Lent is a season of reflection, a time to pause in the midst of life’s busyness and create space for God. It begins with Ash Wednesday, a reminder of our mortality and the gift of life we’ve been given.
We began this journey together early in the morning of Wednesday, March 5, with a brief Ash Wednesday service.   I invite you to join us any Sunday during Lent as we set aside time to reflect on God’s goodness and the life He offers us in Christ.
I hope to see you during the Season of Lent this year.

Daylight Saving Time:  We spring forward at 2 am on Sunday morning (March 9, 2025)! Your smart devices will know this, of course, but you may not, so we offer this gentle reminder.   Our service on Sunday morning will begin at 11 am EDT (which "used to be" 9 am Eastern Standard Time).  If you get going a little bit too late on Sunday morning, of course you can still join us via livestream from the church website.  Simply click here on Sunday morning at 11 am EDT for the livestream!
Annual Congregational Meetings:  We are in annual meeting season in many of our New England towns and also in our church!  The Hanover Center Church will hold its annual meeting the following Sunday, March 9, 2025, also after the Sunday morning service.  All are welcome to attend, but only members of each congregation may vote in that congregation's meeting.
Bible Studies:  We offer three weekly opportunities for Bible study/discussion. We hope that you're able to join us for at least one them!
  • Our Sunday morning Bible discussion group meets at 9 am in Trumbull Hall. this Sunday, we're beginning a new series based on the common lectionary series readings for the season of Lent.
  • On Wednesday mornings at 10 am in Trumbull Hall, Pastor Chris leads a spirited Bible Discussion focused on the previous week's sermon. A Zoom link is available for those who wish to join in but are not able to attend in person.
  • On Monday evenings this year, Pastor Chris is leading a focused 1 Corinthians Bible Study group, serving as an adjunct to Pastor Chris's current sermon series. It's "in full swing", but new attendees are still welcome! See Pastor Chris if you're interested in participating.
